MS-CC Undergraduate Summer Research Internship

The MS-CC has demonstrated its commitment to advancing data-intensive research and workforce development by launching two successful Undergraduate Summer Research Internship programs. The inaugural internship, held in the summer of 2024 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in collaboration with Florida A&M University, was followed by a second program hosted at Fisk University in partnership with Meharry Medical College. Through these immersive experiences, undergraduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) engaged in cutting-edge, data-intensive research.

Throughout these programs, interns worked closely with faculty mentors and leading researchers, gaining valuable hands-on experience in advanced computational tools, data science methodologies, and collaborative research practices. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, the MS-CC directly contributes to broadening participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), empowering students from underrepresented communities to become future leaders in data-driven fields.

Aligned with the MS-CC’s broader mission to build cyberinfrastructure capacity and strengthen research collaborations across minority-serving institutions, these internship programs are pivotal in cultivating a diverse and innovative next-generation workforce.
