Join Oglala Lakota College, MS-CC, ESIIL, and Daear Consulting for a hands-on hackathon exploring how Earth observation data can support Tribal climate resilience while advancing Indigenous data sovereignty.
Participants will learn how to build satellite-based data cubes for the Pine Ridge Reservation using open-source tools and develop community-driven projects focused on land, water, and climate. As we do this, participants will examine how different data sharing principles (e.g. OCAP®, CARE, and FAIR) principles can guide Tribal data sovereignty.
You’ll learn how to:
- Build a data cube using satellite imagery
- Use modern Earth data science tools including Python, GitHub, and Jupyter Notebooks
- Explore community-driven applications for climate resilience
- Apply Indigenous data sovereignty principles to real-world data systems
- Collaborate with students, Tribal staff, faculty, researchers, and community members
No prior experience is required. Whether you’re interested in climate, GIS, programming, environmental science, or Tribal data governance, this hackathon is designed to help you build practical skills while supporting community priorities.

Reimbursement Policy
