MS-CC Welcomes Al Anderson as Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs

Please join us in welcoming Al Anderson to his new role as director of cyberinfrastructure programs with the Minority Serving – Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC)! Al’s first day with the MS-CC was August 12, 2024.

In this role, Al is responsible for directing the MS-CC’s cyberinfrastructure facilitation services and the Proof-of-Concept Grant Program (NSF OAC # #2234326).

Al brings over 30 years of technology experience with a focus on information technology, particularly in networking and server technologies. Prior to joining MS-CC as the director of cyberinfrastructure programs, Al was the Chief Information Officer at Salish Kootenai College (SKC) in Pablo, Montana.

Having worked at SKC, Al brings significant experience with a Tribal college and will be instrumental in guiding the team’s efforts in pursuing meaningful opportunities to support Tribal Colleges and Universities and the broader MS-CC community.

Among Al’s notable projects was serving as the faculty lead for the Communications System and Ground Station for SKC’s BisonSAT, a CubeSAT launched in September 2015. More recently, Al has worked on projects in data analysis and cloud computing. He has a keen interest in microcontroller and FPGA technologies. Al has previously served on the MS-CC Leadership Board and was co-chair of the MS-CC Programs and Priorities Committee.

Al earned his master’s of science in computer science, specializing in networking and telecommunications, in 2013. He also completed a Coursera specialization in data science from Johns Hopkins University in 2014.

Al resides in the beautiful Mission Valley on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana with his wife of 21 years and two rescue dogs. He has two children and four grandchildren. He enjoys downhill skiing, mountain biking, motorcycle riding, hiking, making stuff in his workshop, and traveling with his family.

Al joins MS-CC’s team of dedicated staff who support community and capacity building, research support and acceleration, and workforce development, as funded under NSF awards #2137123 and #2234326.
