Motivating your Campus Around CI to Advance Research and Education (R&E) Programs
The MS-CC workshop was hosted at the campus of HBCU, Prairie View A&M University from April 3-4, 2024, in the Willie A. Tempton Memorial Student Center located at 155 LW Minor St, Prairie View, TX 77446.
We’ve designed a hands-on workshop experience for leadership, faculty, researchers, IT staff, and students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) that provided information, tools, and resources to support and enable many day-to-day activities on your campus.
This workshop provided opportunities for networking and connecting with your peers, potential collaborators, and partners via breakout sessions, discussion groups, and hosted meals. Please read the workshop agenda (below) for additional details.
The workshop is funded by the NSF OAC 2137123 awarded to the Minority Serving – Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) and Internet2.

MS-CC Workshop Series
The MS-CC workshop at Prairie View A&M University was one of several workshops the MS-CC and Internet2 are planning at HBCU (historically Black college and university) and TCU (tribal college and university) campuses throughout 2024.
If the MS-CC workshop in Prairie View, Texas was not geographically convenient for you, additional workshops are under consideration and will be announced throughout 2024. Registration
The two-day workshop was free for MS-CC participants, but registration is required. Registration was open through Friday, March 29, 2024. The MS-CC is utilizing Internet2’s event registration system.
What to expect as part of your registration process:
- You will first need to complete the Google form to have access to the registration link.
- In the Google form, you will put your email, name, and select the institution you are currently employed or attending as a student.
- If you do not attend a institution within the 250-mile radius you will be put on the waitlist for consideration.
- If your institution is within a 250-mile radius you will have access to the registration link.
- Once you have clicked the registration link, authentication is required before registering for the event.
- Upon clicking the Sign-in link below, your browser will be redirected to a page where you can select your organization name in the pull-down list.
- Please select your organization and continue to authenticate at your organization.
- If your organization name doesn’t appear in the pull-down list, you can use your own Google account.
- If you don’t own a Google account, you can create an Internet2 Guest Account at https://apps.cirrusidentity.com/cirrusid/internet2.edu/register/index.
- You will be prompted to submit your name, job title, job function, institution, email address, and mailing address.
- You will be prompted to indicate whether you plan on attending both days of the workshop or just one day. Under each selection, there is a Registration Code (Optional) field; there is no registration code required for this workshop.
- You will also be prompted to indicate whether you plan on joining the Wednesday evening reception hosted by the MS-CC.
- You will be prompted to submit special needs and emergency contact information. Protected health information (PHI) provided with this registration will be safeguarded by Internet2 from unauthorized disclosure.
- You will be prompted to complete Internet2’s Event Registration Privacy Policy. Internet2 values your privacy and gives you an opportunity to opt out of lists.
- You will be prompted to read and agree to Internet2’s Events Code of Conduct and Participant Consent.
- Once these prompts are completed, you will get notified immediately that your submission was successful and that an email confirmation has been sent to the email address you registered with.
- In your inbox, you will find two registration email confirmations: an enrollment confirmation email and a receipt number confirmation email.
- The receipt number confirmation email provides a summary of the information you submitted in the registration form. Please verify your information is correct and appears as you want it to appear on your workshop badge.

Parking
Participants will first stop at the visitation center, sign in, and receive a parking pass. After, participants will then drive over to lot 91 or 91A where they will park behind the Memorial Student Center.
Please leave your parking pass visible on your dashboard so you will not receive a ticket. For directions, please refer to the PVAMU map.
Reimbursements
As an MS-CC participant, we can reimburse reasonable mileage (within a 250-mile radius of Prairie View) for first-time MS-CC workshop participants from HBCUs and TCUs. The reimbursement request process is completed in two steps:
- Before the Workshop: Complete the MS-CC travel support acceptance form by April 1, which is included in the registration form process.
- After the Workshop: Submit your receipts and MS-CC travel reimbursement form. This form will be shared with attendees at the conclusion of the MS-CC Workshop at Prairie View A&M University.

What Workshop Participants Can Expect
The two-day workshop agenda was designed around two themes: Cyberinfrastructure and Cybersecurity. The workshop program includes keynote presentations, panel discussions with cyberinfrastructure and cybersecurity leaders, facilitated group discussions, and hands-on learning opportunities, including access to open-source security tools and documented best practices for campus infrastructure.
Informal networking opportunities provide you with opportunities to meet and build connections with your peers and cybersecurity professionals and leadership from regional and national non-profit organizations supporting the research and education community in the U.S.
