Please join us in welcoming Alexia Jones to her new role as program manager for the Climate Science Program with the Minority Serving – Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC)! Alexia’s first day with the MS-CC was Monday, April 22, 2024.
In this role, Alexia supports the new MS-CC climate science-focused program that is funded through a supplement to NSF award #2234326. The program kicks off this summer with an undergraduate student internship at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and will include additional programming focused on utilizing cyberinfrastructure for climate science research for HBCUs and TCUs.
Alexia is a dedicated professional who focuses strongly on inclusive workforce development and environmental justice in her role. She is committed to facilitating meaningful educational experiences for underserved populations.
Alexia joined the MS-CC from the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, where she oversaw the Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental justice grants, the Department of Energy & Environment healthy housing grants, and the Maryland Department of Health’s asthma awareness grants. She is also the vice chair of the Amazing Soldiers, Inc. Board of Directors.
Alexia earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Bowie State University. She lives in the D.C. metropolitan area with her significant other and their two daughters, Kimi and Tori. In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, exploring new culinary creations, and staying informed about the projected impact of climate change on the world.
Alexia joins MS-CC’s team of dedicated staff who support community and capacity building, research support and acceleration, and workforce development, as funded under NSF awards #2137123 and #2234326.
