Former MS-CC Summer Research Intern Among Presenters at 2025 Annual Meeting

The MS-CC is pleased to welcome former intern Adrian Lockwood to the podium as a presenter at the 2025 Annual Meeting later this month in Nashville. A computer science major, U-RISE scholar, and recent graduate of Claflin University, Adrian will participate in a student panel discussion, “Bridging Knowledge and Action – Empowering Students Through MS-CC.”

This panel discussion will highlight the transformative experiences of participants in the 2024 MS-CC Climate Science Internship. The internship provided students with the opportunity to engage in data-intensive planetary resilience research alongside faculty mentors and researchers. The panel will focus on the personal and professional growth of the interns, showcasing how the program has shaped their understanding of planetary resilience and data research. By sharing their journeys, the students will provide valuable insights into the challenges and successes they encountered during the internship.

During his internship last year, Adrian and fellow panelist Anne-Marie Boseman, mentored by Dr. Theran (Florida A&M University), explored machine learning-based solutions for land cover classification using hyperspectral images. For his presentation, Adrian will expand on this topic while sharing his experiences during the internship.

What do you hope attendees will learn from your presentation?

The different types of machine learning models and how each one is different for a particular purpose.

What do you enjoy most about speaking on this topic?

Being able to provide real world examples so that the audience can understand better what I am trying to convey.
