💡 What You Will Learn
This program provides a deep dive into real-world research that matters and allows students to collaborate with expert faculty mentors and graduate students at Fisk University and Meharry Medical College. Here are some examples of the research projects selected students will be working on this summer:
- Cyberinfrastructure for Viral RNA Biosurveillance
- EcoChat: AI-Powered Conversational Agent for Advancing Ecological Literacy
- ML-based Malware Detection
- Privacy-aware Data Sharing in Healthcare/Finance

📚 What the Experience Looks Like
Weeks 1-2: Intensive training and instruction at Fisk University to build your foundation
Weeks 3-10: Hands-on, team-based research projects with dedicated mentorship
Throughout: Field trips, virtual sessions with peers and mentors from across the country, networking opportunities, and access to scientific subject matter experts
Conference Participation: You’ll attend the PEARC26 conference, which is a premier gathering of computational and data science professionals
🎯 Who Should Apply?
Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- Currently enrolled in a science degree program at any accredited U.S. college or university
- U.S. citizen
- Demonstrate a strong interest in quantitative research
- Can collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Want to develop transferable career skills in an interdisciplinary setting
Programming experience and prior research experience are valuable but NOT required. We’re looking for curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to learn.
